What is a Turtle Shell®?
Turtle Shell® is a patented product providing critical systems protection from water and debris. The modular system is constructed of a lightweight frame and waterproof shell.

How big is a Turtle Shell®?
A standard Turtle Shell® weighs 62 lbs. (15.5 lbs per each mounting leg). It has a 38” radius, 12” total height (to the apex), and 55” or 60” width. Custom Turtle Shells® can be designed to meet any dimensional requirements.

Will a Turtle Shell® work in my environment?
Standard Turtle Shells® have been designed and engineered to work in most common environments to protect standard equipment cabinets/racks and account for surrounding services, support framing, cable racks and fiber troughs. However, Turtle Shells® can be customized to almost any situation. Contact us to discuss your specific needs.

Does a Turtle Shell® protect the sides of my equipment?
Yes, in addition to providing an overhead barrier against water and debris, Turtle Shells® can be equipped with breathable PVC curtains that can be deployed manually or automatically to prevent infiltration from the sides.

How are Turtle Shells® mounted?
Standard Turtle Shells® are supported from above or below using thread rods mounted to framing support. We have also designed custom shells that can be mounted to walls or supported using other methods. See Installation Details for more information.

How much clearance is required?
Shells are typically mounted 12”-15” above the cabinet measured from the lowest point of the shell to the top of the cabinet. Actual height will depend on existing conditions including services, support framing, cable racks and fiber troughs.

What is the durability of a Turtle Shell®?
A Turtle Shell® is virtually unbreakable. The polycarbonate shell has 250 times the impact strength of glass and 30 times that of acrylic, satisfying major building code requirements for a CC-1 rating in construction applications.

Is a Turtle Shell® fire resistant?
Yes, the polycarbonate shell is listed with Underwriters Laboratories for the UL94 Flammability Standard.

Do Turtle Shells® have a warranty?
Turtle Shells® have a 5 year warranty that includes all materials and labor (where applicable). Yearly visual inspections are recommended to ensure no unauthorized adjustments have been made.
